American House Hotel
Hickory Stick On 7Th Street
American House Hotel
7th and Market Street
The initial structure at this location was a timber-framed building with eight guestrooms, and Aaron Kern was its first licensed proprietor.
Phillip Cressman acquired the American House from Oliver Nase in 1882. Starting in 1887, Cressman initiated enhancements to the property. The original hotel was relocated to 115 & 117 N. 6th St., across the vacant lots. By 1894, a new hotel with an iconic tower, subsequently removed, and adjacent businesses on Seventh St. were established. The hotel succumbed to a fire in 1988, leaving the site vacant for several years.
Between 2015 and 2016, a mixed-use retail and residential building was erected on the premises, which, as of 2022, accommodates enterprises like Rise and Grind Cafe, Bloom, and Hickory Stick on 7th Street, previously known as Rita's.
